Registration for next year’s classes (including preparation for reception of the sacraments) begins now. Registration forms are available in the vestibule at all churches and on-line. From the day we are born until the day we leave this life, we are on a journey. It is a journey of learning, growing, and developing into the person our loving God created us to be. It is a journey growing in relationship with God and developing all the gifts God has given us. God sent Jesus into the world to walk with us and teach us how to live our lives, and Jesus gave us two laws to live by: love God, and love our neighbors as ourselves.
The Sacrament of Confirmation marks the completion of baptismal grace. Are you an adult who has not yet received this important sacrament? If you are interested in participating or have questions, contact Susan in the Faith Formation Office (suolsen@dsj.org).

As your Pastor, I want to encourage all parents and guardians to make plans for your children’s *ongoing faith formation, as our own programs commence. Your parish stands ready to help you. Over the summer, both Susan Olsen (Director of Catechetical Ministry) and Chris Mardesich (Director of Youth Ministry) have been hard at work preparing for this new year of learning and living our Catholic faith. We have programs for children in pre-school through high school. Our vision of faith formation is structured to engage children and youth in a process that is engaging, challenging, and fun.
“Faith is born of an encounter with the living God, who calls us and reveals his love, a love which precedes us and upon which we can lean for security and for building our lives.” Lumen Fidei 4 These words of Pope Francis are a reminder of the importance of the gift of faith in guiding our lives on a path of love and fulfillment as the people God created each of us to be. We do so much to help our children develop their gifts and talents so that they will be successful in life. Do we invest the same time and energy in their faith? And what of our own faith? Have we stopped learning and growing in our relationship with God just because the sacraments are behind us?

Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of his or her Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. It is a chance for all to rededicate themselves to this mission as a community of faith.
